Vol: 45, No.51 25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME ( B) September 23 2018

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
I am the salvation of the people, says the Lord. Should they cry to me in any distress, I will hear them, and I will be their Lord for ever.
PENITENTIAL RITE
For the second consecutive Sunday the Gospel presents the passion prediction of Jesus. When Jesus spoke about his impending death and resurrection, the disciples did not understand and were afraid to seek further clarification on the matter. The corresponding First Reading of today is from the book of Wisdom where we see the godless plotting against the righteous man. They want to destroy the righteous man with insults and torture and wait to see his reactions. The tactic of the godless was defeated in the case of Jesus who remained gentle throughout his passion and never retaliated. When put to the test where do we put our trust? Do we lament and curse? (Pause)
I Confess to almighty God/and to you,/ my brothers and sisters,/ that I have greatly sinned,/ in my thoughts and in my words,/ in what I have done/and in what I have failed to do,/ through my fault,/ through my fault,/ through my most grievous fault;/ therefore I ask blessed Mary ever Virgin,/ all the Angels and Saints,/ and you, my brothers and sisters,/ to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Glory to God...

COLLECT
O God, who founded all the commands of your sacred law upon love of you and of your neighbour, grant that, by keeping your precepts, we may merit to attain eternal life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
FIRST READING
(This passage tells us that the plots of the godless are against the just because according to the former the latter reproaches them for sins against the Torah).
A reading from the Book of Wisdom (2:12, 17-20)
The godless say to themselves, “Let us lie in wait for the righteous man, because he is inconvenient to us and opposes our actions: he reproaches us for sins against the law, and accuses us of sins against our training. Let us see if his words are true, and let us test what will happen at the end of his life; for if the righteous man is God’s son, he will help him, and will deliver him from the hand of his adversaries.
“Let us test him with insult and torture, that we may find out how gentle he is, and make trial of his forbearance. Let us condemn him to a shameful death, for, according to what he says, he will be protected.”
