to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
The Gospel of the Lord
I believe in God,/.....
Cel: When the people of Israel returned from their Babylonian exile the city of Jerusalem still lay in ruin. The city was rebuilt through the able leadership of Ezra and Nehemiah. They also taught the people and held public reading of the Law. That we too may place our abilities and talents for the benefit of the people, let us pray, saying,
Response: Lord, may your Word inspire us.
1. For the pope, the bishops, the clergy and the religious that as leaders in the Church they may guide the people through examples and exhortations, we pray … R/
2. That Catholic homes may give due honour to the Bible by placing it in a prominent place in the homes and by reading and meditating on it, we pray … R/
3. For all those who are specialists in the Bible, such as teachers, lecturers, authors and commentators that their devotion to the Word of God may enrich all the people who thirst for the Word of God, we pray … R/
4. For the differently abled, such as the blind, the deaf and the dumb, the paralyzed and the crippled that they may become beneficiaries of education and employment through the loving kindness of God, we pray … R/
5. For all of us who are present in this Eucharistic assembly that we too may make our own programme for life and
work towards its fulfilment, we pray … R/
(Pause to pray for personal and community needs)
Cel: God, our Father, we thank you for the gift of your Son Jesus who chose a passage from Isaiah as his programme of life. Jesus remained faithful to his programme even at the coast of his own life. Give us the grace that we too may accomplish our Christian call and face the challenges emanating from it. We make this prayer … …
Accept our offerings, O Lord, we pray, and in sanctifying them grant that they may profit us for salvation. Through Christ our Lord.
PREFACE II (Ordinary)
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord.
For out of compassion for the way-wardness that is ours, he humbled himself and was born of the Virgin; by the passion of the Cross he freed us from unending death, and by rising from the dead he gave us life eternal.
And so, with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominions, and with all the hosts and Powers of heaven, we sing the hymn of your glory, as without end we acclaim:
All: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts…
Look towards the Lord and be radiant; let your faces not be abashed. (Ps 33:6)
Grant, we pray, almighty God, that, receiving the grace by which you bring us to new life, we may always glory in your gift. Through Christ our Lord.
