your truth, and teach me; for you are God my Saviour. R/
Remember your mercy, Lord, and the love you have shown from of old. In your love remember me, because of your goodness, O Lord. R/
The Lord is good and upright. He shows the path to those who stray, he guides the humble in the right path; he teaches his way to the poor. R/
SECOND READING
(As Paul is writing this letter, he holds the view that the second coming of the Lord is imminent and so exhorts the Corinthians to live in expectation).
A reading from the First Letter of St Paul to the Corinthians (7:29-31)
I mean, brethren, the appointed time has grown very short; from now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the form of this world is passing away.

Alleluia, alleluia! The kingdom of God is at hand; believe in the Gospel. Alleluia!

GOSPEL
(Jesus begins his ministry by calling people to repentance and faith. He then chooses some fishermen as his disciples).
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St Mark (1:14-20)
After John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the Gospel.” And passing along by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and

Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending their nets. And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed him.
The Gospel of the Lord
I believe in God,/the Father almighty,/ Creator of heaven and earth,/and in Jesus Christ,/his only Son,/our Lord,/who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,/born of the Virgin Mary,/suffered under Pontius Pilate,/was crucified,/died and was buried;/he descended into hell;/on the third day he rose again from the dead;/he ascended into heaven,/and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;/from there he will come to judge the living and the dead./I believe in the Holy Spirit,/the holy catholic Church,/the communion of saints,/the forgiveness of sins,/the resurrection of the body,/and life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL
Cel: After having affirmed our faith in God let us place our prayers and petitions before him with the confidence that God will hear them and answer them. God’s loving mercy towards all who repent knows no bounds. As we place our petitions before the Lord, let us seek God’s mercy for our own failures and defects, saying,
Response: Lord, have mercy on us
