Vol: 46, No.45 The Assumption Of Mary & Independence Day ( C) August 15 2019
A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon beneath her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. (Rev 12:1)
The Assumption of Mary has been declared a dogma of faith on 1st November 1950 by Pope Pius XII. The dogma states that Mary after finishing the course of her life on earth has been taken up in body and soul to heavenly glory. From the humble maiden of Nazareth to the mediatrix of all graces Mary’s rise to glory has been spectacular. Mary not only has given birth to Jesus but also has accompanied him as a faithful disciple. Mary remains a pillar of strength for her Son from his cradle to the tomb. It is only fitting that God the Father does not allow her body to be corrupted for she is the only one human person preserved from the stain of any sin. She is assumed into heaven from where she wholeheartedly collaborates in the mission started by her Son. How do we relate to our heavenly mother? Do we present our needs to her? (Pause)

Glory to God in the highest...
Almighty ever-living God, who assumed the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the Mother of your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory, grant, we pray, that, always attentive to the things that are above, we may merit to be sharers of her glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
(The king and the people praise Judith for the marvellous victory won by her in eliminating Holefernes who is the enemy of the people).
A reading from the Book of Judith (13:18-20; 15:9)
And Uzziah said to her, “O daughter, you are blessed by the Most High God above all women on earth; and blessed be the Lord God, who created the heavens and the earth, who has guided you to strike the head of the leader of our enemies. Your hope will never depart from the hearts of men, as they remember the power of God. May God grant this to be a perpetual honour to you, and may he
