Vol: 46, No.35 PENTECOST ( C) June 09 2019
The Love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Spirit of God dwelling within us, alleluia. (Rom 5:5)
With the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost the Church was officially born. Jesus had asked his disciples to stay in the city of Jerusalem because he wanted to give them the gift of the Holy Spirit which he says is a gift for them from his Father. The disciples had no idea how long they had to wait for the gift they were going to receive. The mystery was solved on the traditional feast of the Jews called the Pentecost, a harvest festival when people from all over would congregate in Jerusalem. It was the wonderful plan of God that the Church was born in the sight of people from all over the world because Christianity is universal and people from all over can become members of it. The working of the Spirit in the disciples and their Spirit-filled talk were thought to be under the influence of the new wine by the crowd but it was the effect of the Spirit as Peter made it known in his speech. What work does the Spirit do in us? (Pause)

Glory to God in the highest...
O God, who by the mystery of today’s great feast sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation, pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit across the face of the earth and, with the divine grace that was at work when the Gospel

(The outpouring of the Holy Spirit happens as Jewish devotees from all over the world gather in Jerusalem for the feast of the Pentecost. It has been a spectacular manifestation of the power of God and everyone who has witnessed it is amazed).
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (2:1-11)
When the day of the Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia,
