Vol: 46, No.31 4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER ( C) May 12 2019
The merciful love of the Lord fills the earth; by the word of the Lord the heavens were made, alleluia. (Ps32:5-6)
With the death of Jesus one more phase in the salvation history came to an end but the resurrection of Jesus opened a new chapter in the salvation history. Jesus laid the foundation for the kingdom of God through his preaching and healing. He also involved his apostles in this same work by sending them on preaching and healing missions. In the time of the apostolic preaching other eminent preachers have emerged, such as Paul and Barnabas. These two carried out many successful missionary journeys and brought the gospel to the hitherto unknown towns of Asia Minor. The Lord has used the apostles to bring light and life to the people. They themselves are not the light or the shepherd; the Lord Jesus is the Shepherd and Light of the world. It is him that we have to announce. How do we cooperate in the work of God? The next sabbath almost the whole city gathered together to hear the word of God. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted what was spoken by Paul, and reviled him. And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, “It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life,
