Vol: 46, No.8 MARY, MOTHER OF GOD ( C) January 01 2019
Hail, Holy Mother, who gave birth to the King who rules heaven and earth for ever. (Is 9:1, 5)
On every New Year we begin two journeys simultaneously: a physical one and a spiritual one. On the physical front we travel around the Sun which takes 365 days and nights to complete the journey. During this journey we will come across the different seasons. We will work, earn money, watch television and browse the Internet, and visit hospitals. These and other things we do make up our physical journey. At the same time we also take up a spiritual journey, which will be successful when done under the patronage of Mary, the Mother of God. Long ago God sought the consent of a young maiden to begin a new era in God-human relationship. “When the time had fully come God sent his Son to redeem those who were under the law,” writes Paul to the Romans. In all these we are the gainers because God has adopted us as his sons and daughters. How do we value our sonship? How do we honour our heavenly mother? (Pause)

I confess to almighty God/and to you,/my brothers and sisters,/that I have greatly sinned,/in my thoughts and in my words,/in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,/through my fault,/through my fault,/through my most grievous fault;/therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,/all the Angels and Saints,/and you,/my brothers and sisters,/to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Glory to God in the highest...
O God, who through the fruitful virginity of Blessed Mary bestowed on the human race the grace of eternal salvation, grant, we pray, that we may experience the intercession of her, through whom we were found worthy to receive the author of life, our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
(God promises his blessings on those who are faithful and devoted to him. The formula of blessing includes God’s protection, his benevolence and bestowal of peace).
AA reading from the Book of Numbers

The Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron and his sons, ‘Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them, The Lord bless you and keep you: The Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you: The Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.’ So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”
The Word of the Lord
PSALM (67)
Response: O God, be gracious and bless us.
God, be gracious and bless us and let your face shed its light upon us. So will your ways be known upon earth and all nations learn your saving help. R/
