ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
Within your will, O Lord, all things are established, and there is none that can resist your will. For you have made all things, the heaven and the earth, and all that is held within the circle of heaven; you are the Lord of all. (Esth 4:17)
PENITENTIAL RITE
The Catechism of the Catholic Church affirms that the matrimonial covenant by its nature is ordered towards the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children. This covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament. Thus a marriage concluded and consummated between baptized persons cannnot be dissolved. The Pharisees who questioned Jesus about divorce most probably knew that a marriage cannot be dissolved, yet they put the question to test him. Insincere talk does not work with Jesus. It is not accidental that Jesus received children and blessed them after he silenced the Pharisees. Husband and wife along with children constitute the family and the union cannot be broken. What do I do to make my family a home for all to live and flourish? (Pause)

FIRST READING
(According to the Yahwist account of creation, the woman is created from the rib of the man and the man recognizes her as his companion. No other being created by God has been found fit for him).
A reading from the Book of Genesis (2:18-24)
The Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for the man there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; and the rib which the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they become one flesh.
