ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
A great portent appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon beneath her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars (Rev 12:1).
PENITENTIAL RITE
The Assumption of Mary was declared a dogma of faith on 1st November 1950 by Pope Pius XII. The dogma states that Mary after finishing the course of her life on earth was taken up in body and soul to heavenly glory. From the humble maiden of Nazareth to the mediatrix of all graces Mary's rise to glory was spectacular. Mary not only gave birth to Jesus but also accompanied him as a faithful disciple. Mary remained as a pillar of strength for her Son from his cradle to the tomb. It is only fitting that God the Father did not allow her body to be corrupted for she is the only one preserved from the stain of any sin. She is assumed into heaven from where she gives wholehearted collaboration to the mission started by her Son. How do we relate to our heavenly mother? Do we present our needs to her? (Pause)
I Confess to almighty God/and to you,/ my brothers and sisters,/ that I have greatly sinned,/ in my thoughts and in my words,/ in what I have done/and in what I have failed to do,/ through my fault,/ through my fault,/ through my most grievous fault;/ therefore I ask blessed Mary ever Virgin,/ all the Angels

and Saints,/ and you, my brothers and sisters,/ to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Glory to God ...
COLLECT
Almighty ever-living God, who assumed the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the Mother of your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory, grant, we pray, that, always attentive to the things that are above, we may merit to be sharers of her glory. Through our Lord Jesus Chirst, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

(The king and the people praise Judith for the marvellous victory won by her in eliminating Holofernes, the enemy of the people).
A reading from the Book of Judith (13:18-20, 15:9)
And Uzziah said to her, "O daughter, you are blessed by the Most High God above all women on earth; and blessed be the Lord God, who created the heavens and the earth, who has guided you to strike the head of the leader of our enemies. Your hope will never depart from the hearts of men, as they remember the power of God. May God grant this to be a perpetual honour to you, and may he visit you with blessings, because you did not spare your life when your nation was
