Vol: 45, No.39 13TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME ( B) July 08 2018
Your merciful love, O God, we have received in the midst of your temple. Your praise, O God, like your name, reaches the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with saving justice. (Ps 48:10-11)
Every prophet sent to Israel had to face a rebellious people; Ezekiel and Jesus were no exceptions. Rebellion against God brought about the Babylonian exile. Yet, Ezekiel was sent to Babylon to help the people in their distress. In Babylon under the foreign rule the people realized their faults and amended their ways. Jesus, the last in a chain of prophets sent by God also faced rebellion from his people. Jesus, the Son of God, with so much of humanity in him was rejected by his own countrymen. They took a dig at his family background and found nothing noble in it. Despite all odds Jesus went ahead and accomplished his mission. What do we do when we face rejection? (Pause)
I Confess to almighty God/and to you,/ my brothers and sisters,/ that I have greatly sinned,/ in my thoughts and in my words,/ in what I have done/and in what I have failed to do,/ through my fault,/ through my fault,/ through my most grievous fault;/ therefore I ask blessed Mary ever Virgin,/ all the Angels and Saints,/ and you, my brothers and sisters,/ to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Glory to God...
O God, who in the abasement of your Son have raised up a fallen world, fill your faithful with holy joy, for on those you have rescued from slavery to sin you bestow eternal gladness. Through our Lord Jesus
Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns....
(Ezekiel is told that he will be sent to the Israelites, a stubborn people in constant rebellion against God. He is to prophesy to them, regardless of whether they will listen to him or not).
A reading from the Book of Ezekiel

When the Lord spoke to me, the Spirit entered into me and set me upon my feet; and I heard him speaking to me. And he said to me, "Son of man, I send you to the people of Israel, to a nation of rebels, who have rebelled against me; they and their fathers have transgressed against me to this very day. The people also are impudent and stubborn: I send you to them; and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God'. And whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house) they will know that there has been a prophet among them."
