Vol: 45, No.32 PENTECOST SUNDAY ( B) May 20 2018
The Love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Spirit of God dwelling within us, alleluia. (Rom 5:5)
The Feast of Pentecost was celebrated exactly fifty days after the Feast of the Passover. After the Passover festivities, the Jewish people would once again come to Jerusalem for the Pentecost. A small group of Galileans who had come with their Master had not returned to their places of origin because their Master had told them to remain in Jerusalem to receive a gift that God wanted to give them. On Pentecost suddenly there was a sound from heaven like a mighty wind and there appeared tongues of fire distributed and resting on the apostles. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit. On Pentecost Sunday we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the apostles. On this day the Church was officially born and the disciples were empowered to carry out their mission. Do we feel the presence of the Spirit in our lives and what does he prompt us to do? (Pause)

Glory to God ...

O God, who by the mystery of todayís great feast sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation, pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit across the face of the earth and, with the divine grace that
was at work when the Gospel was first proclaimed, fill now once more the hearts of believers. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns...
(On the annual Jewish feast of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit comes down on the apostles. It is a wonderful manifestation of Godís power).
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (2:1-11)
When the day of the Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered saying, ďAre not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Parthians and Medes, and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya
