ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
Behold, the Lord, the Mighty One, has come; and kingship is in his grasp, and power and dominion (Mal 3:1; 1 Chr 29:12)
PENITENTIAL RITE
The Feast of the Epiphany concludes the season of Christmas that began with the season of advent. The Epiphany marks the manifestation of Jesus to the Gentiles. The arrival of the Wise Men from the faraway countries with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh is the fulfilment of the prophecy of Isaiah, “Lift up your eyes round about, and see; they all come together. They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praise of the Lord.” The new era of salvation that began with the birth of Jesus is open to all. In it God makes no distinction between the Jew and the Gentile. The Wise Men had to show great courage and diligence in order to find the Child Jesus. They were overjoyed to find the Child and their reaction was to fall down and worship him. Do we show the same diligence as the Wise Men did in finding Jesus? (Pause)

FIRST READING
(This reading is a magnificent text addressed to the exiles returning from the Babylonian captivity. They are told that the Temple city of Jerusalem will exult before the glory of God).
A reading from the Book of Isaiah
(60:1-6)

Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Lift up your eyes round about, and see; they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from far, and your daughters shall be carried in the arms. Then you shall see and be radiant, your heart shall thrill and rejoice; because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you. A multitude of camels shall cover you, the young camels of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba shall come. They shall bring gold and frankincense and shall proclaim the praise of the Lord.
The Word of the Lord
PSALM (72)
Response: All nations shall fall prostrate before you, O Lord.
