Vol: 45, No.6 CHRISTMAS - MASS AT DAWN ( B) December 25 2017
Today a light will shine upon us, for the Lord is born for us; and he will be called Wondrous God, Prince of Peace, Father of future ages: and his reign will be without end. (Isa 9:1-5; Lk 1:33)
Dear brothers and sisters, salvation is God’s gift and the initiative to save also comes from God. The salvation that God promised through prophet Isaiah is actualized through the birth of Jesus. St  Paul tells Titus that God saves his people not because they have done something to merit it, but because God is merciful to them. The birth of Jesus brought joy to the world. There is spontaneous joy among the shepherds to whom the angels announced the Good News. They do not wait for the night to pass, but set out immediately in search of the Child. They go in “haste” and find Joseph and Mary and the Child Jesus lying in the manger. The shepherds do not keep the events they witnessed to themselves; they become the messengers of the Good News. The same is also our responsibility, that is, becoming heralds of the Good News. What do we do to communicate the Good News announced also to us? (Pause)
I Confess to almighty God/...
Glory to God in the highest...
Grant, we pray, almighty God, that, as we bathed in the new radiance of your incarnate Word, the light of faith, which illumines our minds, may
also shine through in our deeds. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
(At the termination of the Babylonian exile prophet Isaiah promises a new beginning for the people. Freed from the exile they will experience deliverance and salvation).
A reading from the Book of Isaiah
Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to the daughter of Zion, “Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.” And they shall be called The Holy People, The redeemed of the Lord; and you shall be called Sought out, a city not forsaken.
The Word of the Lord
PSALM (96)
Response: This day a new light will shine upon the earth: the Lord is born to us.
The Lord is King, let earth rejoice, the many coastlands be glad. The skies proclaim his justice; all peoples see his glory. R/
Light shines forth for the just and joy for the upright of heart. Rejoice, you just, in the Lord; give glory to his holy name. R/
(Paul tells Titus whom he has appointed bishop that God saves His people not because of their good works but because of His immense mercy).
