Vol: 44, No.42 18TH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR ( A) August 06 2017
In a resplendent cloud the Holy Spirit appeared. The Father’s voice was heard: This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him. (Mt 17:5)

The feast of Transfiguration invites us to come away from where we are to where Jesus is. Jesus is the “Beloved Son” of the Father who we should all “Listen” to. Listening to Jesus and living accordingly brings us to a new realm of existence where we see God face to face. The Transfiguration of Jesus also invites us to look beyond Calvary and the Cross. Jesus cannot be confined to death, nor can death confine him as he has come to conquer death and give us eternal life. Jesus reveals to us his disciples who he really is and the Father invites us to “Listen to Him”. Let us ask ourselves: Am I ready and willing to listen to Jesus and live accordingly? Do I have the faith and hope enough to look beyond the Cross and live my Christian life? Do I become aware of my human situations and get up from there with a view to return to Jesus where he is? (Pause)

I confess to almighty God/...
Glory to God in the highest...

O God, who in the glorious Transfiguration of your Only Begotten Son confirmed the mysteries of faith by the witness of the Fathers and wonderfully prefigured our full adoption to sonship, grant, we pray, to your
servants, that, listening to the voice of your beloved Son, we may merit to become coheirs with him. Who lives and reigns...
(This passage deals with several of Daniel’s visions. The visions centre around the throne of God where one like a son of man is presented to the Ancient of Days and receives universal authority from him).
A reading from the Book of Daniel
(7:9-10, 13-14)

As I looked, thrones were placed and one that was ancient of days took his seat; his raiment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, its wheels were burning fire. A stream of fire issued and came forth from before him; a thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; the court sat in judgement, and the books were opened. I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.
