Vol: 44, No.38 14TH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR ( A) July 09 2017
Your merciful love, O God, we have received in the midst of your temple. Your praise, O God, like your name, reaches the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with saving justice. (Ps 47:10-11)

In the modern age in which we live all important events are planned well in advance. No events in the secular world take place without adequate preparations. In the spiritual world, events such as pilgrimages and mass gathering of people need to be meticulously planned in order to avoid confusion and misplacement of people. The preparation for the sending of the Messiah began centuries before his arrival. All the prophets starting from Isaiah wrote about it and the last of the minor prophets, Zechariah, very vividly described the nature of the Messiah as a triumphant and victorious king and yet humble and lowly in nature. In order to belong to the Messiah promised and sent for us we have to fulfil a very important condition: we should imbibe the Spirit of the Messiah without which we cannot belong to him. Do we have the Spirit of Christ dwelling in us? Do we live a life according to the Spirit of Christ and away from the insinuations of worldly pleasures? (Pause)

I confess to almighty God/and to you,/my brothers and sisters,/that I have greatly sinned,/in my thoughts and in my words,/in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,/through my fault, /through my fault,/through my most grievous fault;/therefore I ask blessed
Mary ever-Virgin,/all the Angels and Saints,/and you,/my brothers and sisters,/to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Glory to God in the highest...
O God, who in the abasement of your Son have raised up a fallen world, fill your faithful with holy joy, for on those you have rescued from slavery to sin you bestow eternal gladness. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns...
(Prophet Zechariah says that the messianic king who is to come will restore a kingdom of peace. The armaments of war will be destroyed and thus the nations will enjoy perpetual peace).
A reading from the Book of Zechariah (9:9-10)
Thus says the Lord: “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on an ass, on a colt the foal of an ass. I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall command peace to the nations; his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth.
The Word of the Lord
PSALM (144)
