Vol: 44, No.14 7TH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR ( A) February 19 2017
O Lord, I trust in your merciful love. My heart will rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord who has been bountiful with me. (Ps 12:6)

Jesus’ teaching “Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect” is an invitation to come away from where we are to participate in the perfection of God the Father. The disciples of Jesus are those who live the beatitudes in their lives and become lighthouses that disseminate him in their lives. A true follower of Jesus is the one who has vowed to die to self and accept and live Jesus’ kind of values and attitudes. Living the commandments of Jesus makes us perfect and gives us an opportunity to love God and participate in his holiness. Hence let us ask ourselves: whether am I ready and willing to accept the commandments of Jesus and follow them in my life? Am I prepared to die to myself and accept and live the ways of God in my life? (Pause)

I confess to almighty God/and to you,/my brothers and sisters,/that I have greatly sinned,/in my thoughts and in my words,/in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,/through my fault,/through my fault,/through my most grievous fault;/therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,/all the Angels and Saints,/and you,/my brothers and sisters,/to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Glory to God in the highest...
Grant, we pray, almighty God, that, always pondering spiritual things, we may carry out in both word and deed that which is pleasing to you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
(This passage from Leviticus is well known for it contains the “Holiness Code”: Be holy for the Lord God is holy. The command to love one’s neighbour as oneself has its origin also in this passage).
A reading from the Book of Leviticus (19:1-2,17-18)
The Lord said to Moses, “Say to all the congregation of the people of Israel, You shall be holy; for I the Lord your God am holy.”
“You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason with your neighbour, lest you bear sin because of him. You shall not take vengeance or bear any grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbour as yourself: for I am the Lord.”
The Word of the Lord
PSALM (102)
