Vol: 44, No.4 4TH SUNDAY OF ADVENT ( A) December 18 2016
Drop down dew from above, you heavens, and let the clouds rain down the Just One; let the earth be opened and bring a Saviour. (Isa 45:8)

Change is the only permanent thing in this world. God constantly calls us to change the way we think and ultimately for the conversion of our hearts. However, instead of taking the divine intervention seriously man prefers either to remain in his comfort zone or to rely on his own intellect. King Ahaz did not take Prophet Isaiah’s prophecy seriously whereas Joseph heeded the words of the angel and co-operated with God’s grace. Let us ask the Lord to give us the necessary graces to co-operate with the divine intervention in our life as we approach the nativity of our Lord. (Pause)

I confess to almighty God/and to you,/my brothers and sisters,/that I have greatly sinned,/in my thoughts and in my words,/in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,/through my fault,/through my fault,/through my most grievous fault;/therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,/all the Angels and Saints,/and you,/my brothers and sisters,/to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may by his Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of his Resurrection.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
(The prophet Isaiah prophesies about the birth of the Messiah. His birth will have two indications: virginal birth and constant presence of God with human beings).
A reading from the Book of Isaiah

The Lord spoke to Ahaz, “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel.”
The Word of the Lord
PSALM (23)
Response: Let the Lord enter! He is the king of glory.
The Lord’s is the earth and its fullness, the world and all its peoples. It is he who set it on the seas; on the waters he made it firm. R/
Who shall climb the mountain of the Lord? Who shall stand in his holy place? The man with clean hands and pure heart, who desires not worthless things. R/
He shall receive blessings from the Lord and reward from the God who saves him. Such are the men who seek him, seek the face of the God of Jacob. R/
