Vol: 43, No.53 27TH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR ( C) October 02 2016
Within your will, O Lord, all things are established, and there is none that can resist your will. For you have made all things, the heaven and the earth, and all that is held within the circle of heaven; you are the Lord of all. (Esther 4:17)

Sports and games are some of the greatest attractions in modern times. It is customary that each team has a coach or a mentor. The duty of these persons is to motivate the players and instil faith in them that if they play as a unit and believe in themselves then they can win the trophy, if not, their exit from the tournament is a matter of time. Faith is such a quality that it can work wonders in people’s lives. When Mary said yes to the angel after having her doubts cleared at the time of the annunciation, it was an act of faith. When the disciples asked for an increase of faith Jesus responded by saying that if they had it as much as a mustard seed they could work wonders; Jesus probably meant that they did not have faith. Faith is a gift that needs to be exercised in order to keep it alive. What do we do to keep our faith alive? (Pause)

I confess to almighty God/and to you,/my brothers and sisters,/that I have greatly sinned,/in my thoughts and in my words,/in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,/through my fault,/through my fault,/through my most grievous fault;/therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,/all the Angels and Saints,/and you,/my brothers and sisters,/to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Glory to God in the highest...
Almighty ever-living God, who in the abundance of your kindness surpass the merits and the desires of those who entreat you, pour out your mercy upon us to pardon what conscience dreads and give what prayer does not dare to ask. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Hoy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
(Prophet Habakkuk cries out to God for help, and God responds by asking him to write down the vision. That the righteous shall live by his/her faith is a famous saying on faith).
A reading from the Book of Habakkuk (1:2-3; 2:2-4)
“O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and thou wilt not hear? Or cry to thee ‘Violence!’ and thou wilt not save? Why dost thou make me see wrongs and look upon trouble? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise.” And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain upon tablets, so he may run who reads it.
For still the vision awaits its time; it hastens to the end – it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay. Behold, he whose soul is not upright in him shall fail, but the righteous shall live by his faith.”
