ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon beneath her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. (Rev 12:1)
PENITENTIAL RITE

It is a rare privilege that India became an independent and free nation on the Feast Day of the Assumption of our Blessed Mother. Both the feasts have long history of struggle. India became an independent country after a long freedom struggle and Mary received the rare honour of being assumed into heaven body and soul because of the cooperation she rendered to God in the great work of salvation. Mary endured all her sufferings including the heart-breaking scenes of her Son's flagellation, crucifixion and death that ere played out in front of her eyes. What gave her courage is her firm belief that her Son would win the decisive victory over evil. In birth and death Mary was specially favoured by God. She was made sinless at birth and assumed into heaven because she is the Mother of the Redeemer. Are we really free persons? (Pause)

I confess to almighty God/.....

COLLECT
Almighty ever-living God, who assumed the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the Mother of your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory, grant, we pray, that, always attentive to the things that are above, we may merit to be

sharers of her glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
FIRST READING
(King Uzziah and the people praise God for the marvellous victory Judith won by defeating Holofernes, a wicked enemy of the people).
A reading from the Book of Judith
(13:18-20;15:9)

And Uzziah said to her, "0 daughter, you are blessed by the Most High God above all women on earth; and blessed be the Lord God, who created the heavens and the earth, who has guided you to strike the head of the leader of our enemies. Your hope will never depart from the hearts of men, as they remember the power of God. May God grant this to be a perpetual honour to you, and may he visit you with his blessings, because you did not spare your life when your nation was brought low, but have avenged our ruin, walking in the straight path before our God." And all the people said, "So be it, so be it!"
And when they met her they all blessed her with one accord and said to her, "You are the exaltation of Jerusalem, you are the great glory of Israel, you are the great pride of our nation!"
The Word of the Lord
PSALM (1 Sam 2:4-7)
Response: There is none holy like the Lord, there is no rock like our God.
