ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
O Lord, hear my voice, for I have called to you; be my help. Do not abandon or forsake me, O God, my Saviour! (Ps 26:7, 9)
PENITENTIAL RITE

It is a human tendency to encroach into the lives of other fellow human beings. Most of the disputes that at times cross the permitted limit and enter into the category of crime are precisely for reasons of trespassing into others’ property both physical and material. This is what happened to David as he was charmed by the beauty of his neighbour’s wife. He being king his action was doubly punishable. That God hates sin but loves the sinner is a pertinent saying. Both David and the sinful woman in today’s gospel had the experience of forgiveness because they showed signs of repentance. It is never too late to overcome a sinful habit that bothers us. What sinful habits bother me now? What steps am I taking to overcome them? (Pause)

I confess to almighty God/and to you,/my brothers and sisters,/that I have greatly sinned, /in my thoughts and in my words,/ in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,/through my fault,/through my fault,/through my most grievous fault;/therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,/all the Angels and Saints,/and you,/my brothers and sisters,/to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Glory to God in the highest...

FIRST READING
(David has broken the sixth commandment and Nathan confronts him. David true to his reputation as a good king shows true repentance that is accepted by the Lord).
A reading from the Second Book of Samuel (12:7-10, 13)
Nathan said to David, “You are the man. Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel. ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul; and I gave you your master’s house, and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if this were too little, I would add to you as much more. Why have you despised the word of the Lord, to do what is evil in his sight? You have smitten Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’
David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.”
